Detailed itinerary

1

Your adventure begins in the bustling heart of Semporna town then a comfortable van collects you directly from hotel lobby, taking you on a delightful journey away. The journey itself lasts roughly 45 minutes to an hour. Enjoy the vibrant streets that lead to charming villages lined with coconut palms and then into the lush, green embrace of the mangrove ecosystem.

2

Arriving at Mangrove River Base Camp, be greeted with the warm hospitality of a traditional Malaysian "Hi-Tea". Sip on sweet, fragrant tea and savour local delicacies as your guide provides a brief but fascinating introduction to the unique ecology you're about to explore. Next, anticipation builds as you step aboard a sturdy, open-sided boat. Your guide armed with sharp eyes and intimate knowledge of their habits, navigates the channels, pointing towards the canopy. As the boat navigates a narrower channel, the sounds of bugs chirping, fish splashing, and leaves rustling increase. When reaching a place where the river meets the open sea or a large vista, witness the sunset which is nature's beauty. The sky lights up and sends blazing reflections across the tranquil water while mangroves change into beautiful black lace and a sight that calms the mind.

3

As you make your way back to the cosy lights of the Base Camp after sunset, a delicious dinner is ready. Depending on the tour operator, enjoy a delightful buffet BBQ dinner showcasing seafood or cheerful singing, swap stories with other travellers, and enjoy the special vibe of the riverside camp as twilight begins to set in.

Reboard the boat and nocturnal magic is about to begin. Your boat slips back onto the dark water illuminated by the guide's soft spotlight. The fireflies, at first appearing as a few specks of light similar to distant stars falling into a pulsating Christmas tree, drift silently beneath these living stars, a cool green light reflecting on the water, providing a mesmerising and unforgettable natural phenomenon. Please keep in mind that seeing fireflies is a wild experience and cannot be guaranteed. once this experience has ended, return to your hotel with transfer inclusive.
