About this experience

Alfama is not only one of the oldest and most picturesque neighborhoods in Lisbon, but IT was also one of the few that was not destroyed in the 1755 earthquake. And so, the city still maintained its familiar charm. In fact, this neighborhood’s nickname comes from the Arabic ‘Al-hamma’ which means ‘hot springs’ or ‘baths’. Decorated with beautiful tiles, this neighborhood's steep, winding alleys give way to stunning views over a sea of terracotta roofs and the Tagus River. The aromas of traditional Portuguese cuisine, the echoes of fado and the conversation of elderly Portuguese people make this neighborhood one of the most authentic in Lisbon! Our tour starts in Rossio and passes through some key areas before heading to the heart of Alfama, where you will also stop at Miradouro Portas do Sol, before ending the tour at the cathedral.
