What you'll see

Your day begins with pickup at your hotel, or at the downtown Visitor Center, in our comfortable Mercedes Sprinter van. Pickups are between 7:45 and 8:30AM, depending on location. As we head out of Anchorage your guide will talk about the City's history and key points of interest. Journeying north on the Glenn Highway your guide will share interesting information about the Matanuska Valley and the various communities along the way. After about 30 minutes, the natural beauty of the drive takes over as we enjoy the view of the Talkeetna and Chugach mountains and, on a clear day, the Alaska Range. The Matanuska River is our companion as we ascend to the Matanuska Glacier and arrive for your guided hike.

The glacier guides will outfit you with ice spikes and helmets (in the summer); there are also hiking poles available for your use. These guides are experts in what the glacier has to offer each day, as well as its natural history. There will be lots of opportunities for great photos!

After your approximately 2-hour adventure on the ice we head next door for lunch at an authentic Alaska lodge with an epic view of the glacier. Heading home after lunch we have the option to pull of at some scenic points in case you haven't gotten enough pictures for the day.
