Detailed itinerary

1

Discover the best kept Secrets of the great city of Amersfoort. Find clues at the streets and great buildings you pass.

2

Find your next clue at the Koppelpoort which is a double city gate in Amersfoort. It is a combination of a land and water gate. The name is probably derived from the East Middle Dutch word coppel meaning common meadow. The area outside the gate was a common area and was called the Koppel.

3

Walk passed the Tower of Our Lady. This is a church tower in the centre of Amersfoort. The late Gothic structure is 98.33 meters high and rises high above the city center. This makes it one of the most eye-catching monuments in the city and the third tallest church tower in the Netherlands.

4

Find your next clue at the Mondrian House. This is the birthplace of Piet Mondrian (1872-1944). At the time, the building was used as an elementary school where little Piet's father was head teacher. The Mondrian family lived on the upper floor.

5

When you get further with your tour you will find the St. George's Church. Central to the beautiful historic downtown. A prime location for those who love style and allure. That's a bit different from stiff and stately, because the be-all and end-all is great.

6

Did you know that the Tinnenburg House is a monumental building. It is also called Groot Tinnenburg, to distinguish it from the property at Muurhuizen 25 which was named Klein Tinnenburg. 'Tinne' is another word for kanteel.
