About this experience

The Izta Popo National Park has 2 volcanoes in the same place. We have designed hiking routes so you can enjoy the incredible views of the dormant volcano Iztaccíhuatl and the active volcano Popocatépetl. Our certified guide will explain the flora and fauna of the place. Live and breathe pure air at about 3,600 meters above sea level and 4,300 meters above sea level. It is an excellent place to share a wonderful experience alone, with friends or family. The tour includes round-trip transportation.

Choose between:
Level 1. The walk begins at about 3,600 meters above sea level and ends at 3,980 meters above sea level. The trail is marked sandy. The total is approximately 8-9km of which 4km are moderate climbs and 4km are downhills.
Level 2. The total is 14km of which 4km are uphill and the rest downhill with a few meters of moderate ascent. The trail is marked, mostly sandy with an outward view of the Izta and a return view of the Popo.
Level 3. It is a 7km walk at an altitude of between 4,000 and 4,500 meters above sea level where there will be sand and stone.

Level 1 "Easy"

Basic level: Distance of 8 to 9 km, between altitudes of 3,600 and 3,980 meters above sea level. Elevation 380m. We visited a viewpoint between the 2 volcanoes.

highest altitude: Distance of 7 km between altitudes of 3,980 and 4,500 meters above sea level. Includes helmets. It is recommended to bring mountain or hiking boots.

Our adventure begins at the Paso de Cortés. At this point we leave the vehicle, our certified guide gives us the instructions and we prepare for the walk. We have 3 route options with different levels of difficulty. Well, choose one, any of the 3 options. All have been carefully designed so that you do not miss the wonderful views offered by the volcanoes.

Stop 2

On this tour you can choose between 3 different levels:

Level 1 = In this tour we walk along trails marked out towards the Izta volcano. It is a harmonious walk where we will arrive at a viewpoint where you can admire the beauty of Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl. Distance from 9 to 11km, between altitudes of 3,670 and 4,000 masl. 330m drop.

Level 2 = On this route we pass through an area of springs and forest, admiring the beautiful views that characterize this National Park. It has trails not so marked, off-road in grasslands and uphill. Distance from 14.5 to 15km between altitudes of 3,670 and 4,100 masl with a 580m drop.

Level 3 = We will walk at a higher altitude, at this height the views are panoramic. The paths are made of stone, sand and slopes. This route is known as the "Ruta de Portillos" in which we will arrive at the 2nd or 3rd gate depending on the weather conditions. Distance of 7 km between altitudes of 3,900 and 4,300 masl with a 420m drop
