Detailed itinerary

1

Its name means "house of the sun." Located in the municipality of Tepeyahualco, it is considered the most urbanized city of pre-Hispanic Mexico due to its highly elaborate planning and symmetry in all its structures.

The city was built atop a volcanic lava flow and was discovered in the mid-19th century, though it is believed to have reached its cultural peak between 150 and 200 AD, spanning approximately 867 hectares.

Cantona stands out from other Mesoamerican urban centers for its complex and efficient road network; it is estimated to have had around 4,000 streets connecting the population, as well as pathways leading to fields, quarries, reservoirs, and other towns. It also featured 20 ball courts.

Dive into the fascinating pre-Hispanic world with a visit to Tepeyahualco, home to the impressive archaeological site of Cantona. Known as the "house of the sun," this site stands out for its advanced urban planning, featuring thousands of streets connecting its population, ball courts, and ceremonial areas. Explore the history of one of Mesoamerica's most significant cities as you walk through its ruins, built atop volcanic lava.

Tepeyahualco also offers a complete experience surrounded by stunning landscapes. From its rich history to its natural beauty, this visit is perfect for those seeking to learn about ancient Mexican civilizations while enjoying a unique setting. A must-see for culture and adventure enthusiasts!

3

The Alchichica Lagoon is an impressive saltwater body located within the crater of an ancient volcano, framed by semi-desert landscapes. With its turquoise blue hue and mysterious stromatolite formations (mineral structures created by microorganisms), this lagoon is a fascinating destination for nature enthusiasts and those intrigued by geological phenomena.

Perfect for peaceful strolls, photography, and observing the natural surroundings, Alchichica offers a magical and serene atmosphere.
