About this experience

Join us for a unique evening at the Golden Temple and witness the sacred Palki Sahib (Night Ceremony). Each night, the Guru Granth Sahib (holy scripture) is carried in a decorated palanquin from the sanctum, Harmandir Sahib, to the Akal Takht Sahib, accompanied by devotional hymns and traditional music. The ceremony begins after the evening prayer (Rehras Sahib) when the temple is beautifully lit. Walk barefoot across glowing marble, see the Golden Temple shimmering under the night sky, listen to live kirtan, and witness the Sukhasan ritual where the scripture is put to rest. With a practicing Sikh guide, you’ll gain insight into the meaning of each ritual, the values of Sikhism—seva (service), equality, and love—and stories passed down for generations. Anyone can visit the Golden Temple, but this guided experience lets you truly feel it. A moving spiritual journey that will leave you humbled and inspired.

Guests will experience the serene and spiritual Palki Sahib Night Ceremony at the Golden Temple, one of the most sacred and moving rituals in Sikhism. The ceremony begins at 9:30 PM, when the Guru Granth Sahib (the Sikh holy scripture) is ceremonially carried from the main sanctum inside the Golden Temple to the Akal Takht, its resting place for the night.

As the palki (palanquin) is prepared, devotees gather in large numbers, singing hymns and creating an atmosphere filled with devotion and peace. The sight of the beautifully decorated palki, the rhythmic chanting, and the glow of the temple lights reflecting off the holy sarovar (pool) makes this a truly unforgettable experience.

Our knowledgeable guide will accompany the group throughout, offering cultural and historical context, sharing stories about the ceremony’s significance, and answering any questions guests may have.
