About this experience

We cross over the famous Jules Wijdenbosch bridge and at the top you have a beautiful view of Paramaribo and Commewijne. We will drive through the district Commewijne and get to see the locals busy doing the daily tasks. You get to see a lot vendors selling fruit and vegetables alongside the road.

This tour informs you about the history of the several plantations that you will be visiting, get to meet some of the locals and what they are doing on these plantations now.

Detailed itinerary

This is the famous bridge that connects Paramaribo with Commewijne. Before the bridge was build the people could only travel by boat to and from Commewijne. Until now the boat transportation is being used to avoid traffic on the bridge.

Peperpot will be our first stop. Here we will visit the Nature park and you will spot some animals such as iguanas, birds, monkey, sapakara (giant lizards).
Peperpot is on old cacao plantation and there are still some of the cacao trees are still in the park.

Fort Nieuw Amsterdam will be the next stop, where we will visit the Open-Air museum. The fort was build in 1734 to protect the underlying plantations against the English and the French. The guide will inform you more about the history of this plantation.

A stop will also be made at Marienburg, a former sugar plantation. You will have a walk around the plantation while the guide informs you about the history of Marienburg.

You will also visit plantation Leliendaal and Ellen. The guide will inform you all about these 2 special plantations.
