Get acquainted with the downtown of Paramaribo through our city tour. Together with our guide you walk through the streets of Paramaribo, where you will come across many buildings from the colonial past, such as the wooden Basilica Minor and the Presidential Palace. These buildings all have their own special history and uniform, symmetrical building style. The historical value of this architectural style results in a large part of Paramaribo being included on the international list of the UNESCO World Heritage.
The guide will inform you about the history of the Cathedral and if it is possible we will have a look around inside.
At the Independence square you will see the beautiful Presidential Palace and all the other historic buildings that are surrounded. Across of the square you have the waterfront and several small restaurants. Here you will find different Surinamese snacks and dishes.
While passing by the old fort the guide will inform you about the history of Fort Zeelandia and the several monuments that are surrounded in the area.
This is one of the biggest markets of Paramaribo, where locals sell fruit, vegetables, meat and fish. You will get to see what type of fruits and vegetables Suriname has to offer.
You will also pass by the biggest Mosque in Paramaribo and next to it you will see the Synagogue.
The guide will inform you about the Synagogue which stands to the Mosque.
At the waterfront you will find several small eateries where you can find different Surinamese dishes and snacks. You have a beautiful view of the Suriname river and you will also see a part of Commewijne. While enjoying the view the guide will inform you more about the Waterkant.
While passing by the Palm Garden the guide will inform you about the history of the garden. You will see Waka Pasi with its small businesses selling souvenirs and other local products. The guide will give you opportunity to buy some of the souvenirs or one of the other local products.
