At Shirakawa Spring, travelers will discover one of Japan’s most beautiful and pure natural water sources, often called the “fountainhead of life.” Surrounded by lush greenery in the peaceful village of Minamiaso, the spring gushes crystal-clear water at an impressive rate, creating a tranquil setting perfect for relaxation and reflection. Visitors can walk along scenic paths, listen to the soothing sounds of flowing water, and admire the traditional wooden waterwheels and shrines nearby that highlight the site’s cultural and spiritual significance. Many also bring bottles to collect the fresh spring water, celebrated for its purity and refreshing taste. Whether you pause to enjoy the calm atmosphere, take photos of the idyllic landscape, or simply sip the cool water straight from the source, Shirakawa Spring offers a serene and authentic experience in the heart of Kyushu’s natural beauty.

2

Takachiho Gorge offers breathtaking views of steep cliffs carved by volcanic activity, with the emerald Gokase River flowing below. Travelers can rent a boat to paddle close to the stunning Manai Falls or enjoy scenic walks along the riverside trail. The area is rich in mythology, with tranquil spots to soak in the serene beauty of nature and experience a connection to Japan’s ancient legends.

3

Travelers to Amano Iwato Shrine will discover a sacred site nestled in a tranquil gorge, surrounded by lush greenery and steeped in Japanese mythology. The shrine honors the legendary cave where the sun goddess Amaterasu is said to have hidden. Nearby, Amanoyasukawara, a serene riverside cave, is adorned with countless stone stacks left by visitors as prayers. The peaceful atmosphere and spiritual significance make it a must-visit destination for cultural and nature enthusiasts.

4

At Takachiho Shrine, travelers will experience a serene spiritual atmosphere surrounded by ancient cedar trees. They can admire the elegant architecture of the shrine, believed to be over 1,200 years old, and learn about its deep connections to Japanese mythology. In the evening, visitors can enjoy a traditional Yokagura dance performance, depicting stories of the gods in a captivating and sacred ritual. The tranquil setting offers a profound connection to Japan's cultural and spiritual heritage.
