The second most important square in the colonial area of Lima, buitl in the early 1900 and named after the Liberator Jose de San Martin (George Washington for peruvians), with delightfull buildings around it of beaux-arts architecture. Also the first 5-star hotel "Bolivar" (named after the second liberator), which was built by the peruvian arquitect Rafael Marquina who studied in the Cornell University.
The first colonial house included in this tour, the place dates from the early years of the colonial period, it still preserves the original layout of the courtyard-houses (that is how the colonial houses are known), it was inhabited by a very popular composer "Rosa Mercedes Ayarza" who was the first female orchestra director in Perú.
Union street was "the street" in the colonial times, for many years it was the most important street in the city, characterized as the most "aristocratic" and where the most famous inhabitants met. Nice stores, great restaurants, movie theaters, cafe-shops and offices made the street very fascinating to walk by.
