Detailed itinerary

1

The Cave of Melissani in Kefalonia is situated just outside Sami. It is one of the most dramatic places for tourists to visit in Greece. There is a beautiful lake inside the cave that has pretty trees and forests surrounding it. The cave itself is B-shaped. The roof of one of the halls caved in centuries ago letting beautiful sunlight filter in. The depth of the lake is 20 to 30 meters. After a short transfer time you will have the chance to take a boat ride on the lake. This is a geographical phenomenon. There are approx 7 rowing boats that take about 10 people in each. The guides explain how the lake was formed.

2

Don't miss the chance to visit the must see attractions in Kefalonia. Drogarati Cave in Kefalonia was discovered 300 years ago and opened to the public in 1963. It was discovered when a strong earthquake caused a collapse that revealed the cave's entrance. Drogarati is an impressive cave with remarkable formations of stalactites and stalagmites. Speleologists say that this cave is about 150 million years old and constitutes a rare geological phenomenon. Please note there approx 150 steps down into the cave. Hand rails have been installed. But some of the cave flooring is a little uneven and at times can be slippery.

Stop 3

Myrtos Beach is one of the most popular attractions in Kefalonia. It is located 29km North of Argostoli, in a charming area surrounded by beautiful hills. Myrtos beach has gained worldwide reputation. It has been voted best beach in Greece many times!

4

The Koutavos Lagoon is an excellent nature reserve for wildlife, including the Caretta Caretta turtle and other birdlife. It is located near the head of Argostoli Bay. The town's greatest park is a shady forest of eucalyptus and pine trees that may be reached by walking or cycling along the wide trail that round the lagoon from the harbour front. Until the Drepano Bridge was built in 1813 to ease access to Argostoli from the settlements across the bay, the lagoon was an almost impassable bog filled with mosquitoes and malaria. A small islet in the lagoon's center is off-limits to visitors because it serves as a nesting and feeding area for waterfowl. The Koutavos Lagoon is located near the mouth of the Argostoli Bay.
