We begin the boat trip passing through the small channels of River Crmnica that leads from Virpazar to the open lake, large area that offers a first approach to the immensity of the lake. Here, we can see in the distance other part of the lake that connects with Albania, and it is possible to perceive their mountains. The main and additional attraction of this three-hour excursion is a visit to one of the most beautiful monasteries, called Kom.
As you pass by the imposing walls of Lesendra, a fortress nestled in the rugged terrain of Montenegro, you can't help but feel a sense of awe. Built in the 18th century, this fort stands as a testament to the region's tumultuous history and its strategic significance. The fortress is perched atop a steep hill, commanding a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape, including the deep blue waters of the Adriatic Sea and the lush green valleys that stretch out below.
Constructed by the Venetians during their rule over the region, Lesendra was designed to protect the coastal routes and the inland trade routes from Ottoman advances. The walls, made of thick limestone blocks, have weathered centuries of conflict and time, yet they remain remarkably intact. The fort's architecture is a blend of military pragmatism and Venetian flair, with its sturdy bastions, narrow slits for archers, and strategically placed watchtowers.
