Being one of the oldest buildings in South Africa, the Castle of Good Hope is one of the historical stalwarts that is still open to visitors. It captures the historical events that took place in the Castle dating back 350 years ago. The Key ceremony and the Canon Firing all form part of the experience. Please note: The Key Ceremony runs Monday to Friday; Cannon Firing does not take place on a Sunday; These ceremonies are weather dependent.
Inside the walls of the Castle, are amongst others, a church, bakery, living quarters, offices, cells and numerous other facilities. The yellow paint on the walls was chosen to reduce the glare from the sunlight and also because it reflects the heat.
Our second stop, here you will witness the first hand, art of diamond cutting and the careful craftsmanship of jewelry manufacturing by our skilled experts. All whilst enjoying a complimentary glass of sparkling wine. (OPTIONAL)
Situated on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch is internationally acclaimed as one of the seven most magnificent botanical gardens in the world. The 528 hectares’ estate includes a cultivated garden and a nature reserve. The developed garden displays collections of southern African plants including many rare and endangered species. There are also visitor facilities in the garden including restaurants, a nursery, a gift shop, a bookshop and a permanent Zimbabwean stone sculpture exhibition.
We begin our Simon van der Stel wine tour with Buitenverwachting (meaning Beyond expectation) wine estate. This too, had formed part of the original Constantia farm which was found by Simon van der Stel. Even though it changed ownership, they retraced the roots of the estate and restored the historical buildings on the farm. The farm produces 8 % Red, 90% White and 2 % Rose cultivars.
Here you will have the opportunity to taste the Chardonnay Reserve, Unwooded Chardonnay , Semilion, MCC and so many more award winning wines.
Our next stop is at Klein (meaning Little) Constantia wine estate. Set on the foothills of the Constantiaberg, with spectacular views across False Bay, Klein Constantia was also part of the Constantia farm by Simon van der Stel in 1685. Through its decomposed granite soil slopes and cool ocean breeze, Klein Constantia produces some of South Africa’s top wine. The farm produces 30% Red and 70% White cultivars.
We then proceed to the historical Groot (meaning Big) Constantia wine estate. Groot Constantia is the oldest wine producing farm in South Africa since 1685 and even after the farm had changed ownership, it still maintains the production of high quality, award-winning wine. The farm produces 70% Red and 30% White cultivars. We can recommend a beautiful lunch either at Simon’s Restaurant or at Jonkershuis Restaurant, both set on this exquisite wine estate.
Our last wine tasting stop Steenberg Vineyards. Steenberg produces a variety of wines, including Méthode Cap Classique, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Nebbiolo and the ICON wine Magna Carta. Here taste wines of your choice and get a brief history about them.
