Detailed itinerary

1

Your first stop will be at the limestone hills of Batu Caves that comprises of three caverns and several smaller caves. It is the shrine of Lord Murugah, a Hindu deity – a flight of 272 steps lead up to the temple cave. Another cave, called the museum cave, is filled with images of deities and murals depicting scenes from the Hindu scriptures

Also known as Altingburg Lighthouse, this towering structure was built in 1907 to replace the original one constructed by the Dutch some two centuries earlier when they took over the area.

Used extensively during the British colonial period, the lighthouse’s beacon continues to shine and function as a guide for vessels navigating the Straits of Malacca till this day.

3
Stop 3

At the top of the hill, with great views of the coastline as its backdrop, lies Kota Melawati, an ancient fort built by the Malacca Sultanate during the early 16th century.

Kuala Selangor eventually fell to the Dutch in 1784, who reinforced the fort with cannons and renamed it Fort Altingburg after Willem Arnold Alting, the Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies from 1780 to 1797.

Stop 4

Kuala Selangor is a small coastal village northwest of Kuala Lumpur. On this river you can spot the famous fireflies (Kelip-Kelip in Bahasa Melayu) during evenings/nights.

The fireflies all are found on the mangrove tree species called berembang. It is said that this is one of the biggest firefly colonies in the world. Fireflies are also known 'Lightning Bugs' and they shine brightly at the night to attract a suitable partner. Apparently, they are able to shine during the day too but humans then cannot see it. They are only seen at night in and along the 'Berembang' trees along the Selangor River. There are a couple of nice restaurants where they mainly serve fresh seafood. Restoran Kuala Selangor is where we enjoyed a very nice local meal at Pasir Penambang.

5

Sri Shakti Temple is reportedly the only temple in the world where manifestations of all 51 Shaktis are installed. Consciously interspersed within this space are 96 carved pillars that depict the 96 universal principles of Hinduism.

Encircled by a huge decorative wall, entrance into the temple is via a magnificent Rajagopuram (multi-tiered main gateway shrine). Soaring to a height of 74 feet, the 5-tiered Raja Gopuram is a proud proclamation of the architectural treasures within.
