About this experience

This experience takes you onto one of Kilimanjaro’s most stunning and least crowded areas—the Lemosho Route. Starting high on the Shira Plateau, it offers wide-open views of Mount Kilimanjaro that you won’t get on rainforest day hikes. You’ll enjoy clear scenery of Cathedral Peak, Shira Cave and Shira 2, with constant visibility of the summit on clear days.
The plateau is rich in wildlife, and it’s common to spot buffalo, elephants, antelopes, colobus monkeys, blue monkeys and many bird species. This makes the hike both scenic and nature-filled.
We keep the experience personal, provide hotel pickup in Moshi, and include a lunch box and water so you can enjoy the day comfortably. With expert local guides and fewer crowds, this is one of the most rewarding ways to experience Kilimanjaro in just a single day.

Detailed itinerary

1

Travelers will experience one of the most scenic sections of Mount Kilimanjaro by hiking across the Shira Plateau on the Lemosho Route. After a scenic drive from Moshi and a short transfer from Londorosi Gate, they begin their trek through wide open moorland with stunning views of Cathedral Peak, Shira Cave and Shira 2.
Along the way, hikers can enjoy clear, unobstructed views of Mount Kilimanjaro’s summit—one of the main highlights of this route. The area is rich in wildlife, and it’s common to spot buffalo, elephants, antelopes, colobus monkeys, blue monkeys and a variety of bird species.
Travelers will walk approximately 45 minutes to reach the Shira 1 area and continue 2–3 hours toward Cathedral viewpoints. After lunch and enjoying the landscapes, they will hike about 2.5 hours back to the starting point before returning to Moshi.
This experience offers a true taste of Kilimanjaro’s beauty for those who prefer a rewarding day hike instead of a multi-day climb.
