We start the tour in “Câmara de Lobos”, it is a fishing village, which is located on the west side of Funchal. The boats are housed in the small bay, creating a unique landscape on the island. The name was given by João Gonçalves Zarco, resulting from the abundance of monk seals that were in the bay. Locally, this place is well known for the traditional Poncha, a drink made with citrus, honey and rum from the region.
The tour continues to the second highest cliff in the world and the highest in Europe (580m) – (1775ft). One of the most tourist spots on the island. Here you will have a privileged view of Câmara de Lobos and Funchal. Due to natural erosion from the sea, caves and terrain were formed along the coast.
It is an important town in the Region, which connects the North and the rest of the west of the island. The word Ribeira (means
river) and the word Brava (means wild). The mother church is the main attraction of the village. Built in the 16th century, it has had some changes over time. You can also see the São Bento fort and at the same time have a coffee.
This is considered the hottest municipality on the island and where the sun shines for the longest number of hours. It also has a beautiful beach and is a good place to eat or drink something.
Madalena do Mar is a small village located on the southwest coast of the island with beautiful views of the sea and cliffs.
