Covering an area of 58,000 hectares, the Pilanesberg sports a unique topography – rings of geologically fascinating alkaline hills that were produced by volcanic activity 1.2 billion years ago. In addition to healthy populations of lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and both black and white rhino, there are many endemic species that call the park home. Spot brown hyena, cheetah, sable, giraffe, springbok, zebra, hippo and crocodile to name but a few. The park is also a bird-watchers haven with over 360 recorded species.
