Samaria gorge is a National Park with unique flora and fauna, in the heart of mountains. It is the best hike in Crete, and probably one of the best in Europe. Its open 1st May to end of October. The hike is demanding. The path is uneven and rocky, you have to watch your step.
Samaria is a 16km (10 miles) downhill hike in forest and mountains, with a river flowing and organized resting places. Its impossible to get lost, you will hike in the bottom of the gorge with cliffs around. It takes 5 hours to cross it. Its something between Grand Canyon and Zion.
Will depart at 7am and return at 9pm. After an hour driving we will reach the gorge entrance where I drop you off. Hike ends at Agia Roumeli, a tiny village, buy boat tickets for Sougia. At Sougia I will wait for you to drive you back.

We will only provide transfer from Chania to Samaria gorge. The gorge is 14km long, around 4-5 hours hike, there is a separate entrance fee of 5 euro per person. The whole gorge is stunning, you have to take shorts stops to enjoy the scenery and the beauty of nature. The gorge became a national park in 1962 particularly as a refuge for the rare kri-kri (Cretan wild goat). There are several endemic species in the gorge, as well as many other species of flowers and birds. After hiking Samaria gorge, you will reach Agia Roumeli village, where you could have lunch, swim and relax from the hike, and also buy the tickets for the boat, its 13 euro per person. At 5:30pm you will take the boat to Sougia village, a 45-minute trip, where I will wait to take you to Chania.
