About this experience

This is a private tour with a 7-seater van (price for 6 persons).
Chania's Old Town is being inhabited since the ancient times. It has always been a place of prosperity and growth, influenced by the various invaders and the different cultures which shaped the modern city of Chania. Our guides are fluent in English, locals and love sharing knowledge.
We will drive around the city for 2 hours and visit various sites, then will drop you off at Chania old town to spend 2 hours to wander around the picturesque alleys and have lunch. Will explain the culture and traditions and how they formed the modern day city of Chania. We are not allowed to walk or guide in the old town due to license restrictions.
You could extend the tour without extra cost and visit either the archaeology museum, do wine tasting or just spend more time in Chania old town.
Travelers can optionally extend the tour for 3 hours and either drive in the mountains or to a beach and have lunch for an extra cost.

Stop 1

Will drop you off at Talos square on the west side of Chania old town, which is more authentic and unspoiled. You will have around 2 hours available to walk around in the picturesque alleys, explore the town on your own, shop or have lunch.

Stop 2

Chania lighthouse is the oldest light house in the Mediterranean, built in 1864. The lighthouse is the main landmark of Chania. The tower is 21m high and is built on a stone base, located at the end of the old harbour's pier opposite to the fortress of Firkas. Visitors are not allowed to enter the lighthouse. Chania lighthouse was first constructed by the Venetians around 1600, destroyed in the siege of Chania and it took its final form, in the shape of a minaret, during the Egyptian occupation. It was restored in 1996.

Chania is the oldest continuously inhabited city in Europe. The Minoan civilisation dates before 3000BC and it violently ended in 1250BC after the eruption of the volcano of Santorini. At Kasteli hill archaeological excavations are ongoing and unearthed the foundations of buildings.

Stop 4

Optionally stop for 30 minutes to visit the archaeological museum. There is an entrance fee of 5 euro per person.

The Commonwealth cemetery is immaculate, has panoramic views of Souda Bay and the White Mountains (Lefka Ori). At the end of May 1941 the Battle of Crete took place between the British, New Zealanders and Australians, against German paratroopers.

Venizelos graves is actually a park, boasting panoramic views of Chania and the old town.

Optionally visit Agii Apostoli beach for a swim, and perhaps have lunch. This is a 2-3 hour stop, as it takes 30 minutes to drive from Chania (2miles/4km to the west).
