The heritage city of Khajuraho is not only about its beauty but also hide such outskirt locations near to it. Kalinjar Fort, 130km from Khajuraho, is one such historical and architectural jewel. Situated in Banda district, this fortress was built by Chandela ruler on a holy hill in the 10th century.
Kalinjar means the destroyer of time. It is believed that Lord Shiva drank the poison during the churning of great ocean and came here to overcome the ‘God of Death- Kal’. He won over his death and made this place a holy site amongst Hindus. The place came into much more existence with the formation of the fort in the Chandela Dynasty. The place holds its significance of many other historical tales and also have a unique architectural formation. Also known to be a perfect place for meditation due to its natural aura.
