The monastery is located on the eastern road between Akhmim and Nag Hammadi, about 15 km south of Akhmim .

It was formerly called the Monastery of Iron of Saints or Logius and Arsanyos and then named after the famous Roman martyr George. The church is located inside a high wall on a high hill where there is only the archaeological church and buildings for some Coptic families.
