Detailed itinerary

1
Stop 1

Chapel of the Apparitions – is the heart of the Fatima Shrine. In the place where Our Lady of Fatima would have appeared to the kids, was built this chapel. The story of the apparitions tells, Our Lady of Fatima had asked in his last appearance, that a chapel should be built in that place.

2
Stop 2

In 1385 King João I of Portugal declared that he would have a monastery built in honor of the Virgin Mary if his army was able to defeat the much larger army of the Castilians. He was successful, and Portugal gained its independence from Spain. The king had the Batalha Monastery built for the Dominicans, though it took almost two centuries to complete. Today visiting the monastery is a popular day trip from Lisbon.

3

The Estremadura town of Nazaré hugs the western Atlantic coast, a traditional Portuguese fishing village turned popular summer resort and surfer’s paradise. The long sweep of sandy beach is backed by a long esplanade and a cute white-washed, red-roofed town.

4
Stop 4

Explore the streets of this historical town and ogle an array of charming white walled terracotta roofed homes. Notice the vibrant yellow and blue striping that segregate buildings and create an ideal contrast for photographs. Continue along and soak up the scent of sweet cherries as you pass by a shop that serves ginjinha, a cherry liquor served in an edible chocolate cup.
