Hida Takayama Shirakawa-go Gassho Village Day Trip in Nagoya

Takayama is a city located in the mountainous Hida region of Gifu Prefecture. Shirakawa-go is surrounded by mountains, paddy fields, trickling rivers, and is known as the kingdom of forests and streams. The village of Ogimachi in Shirakawa is one of the three world Heritage villages (Shirakawa-go, Ainokura and Suganuma in Gokayama) with the most households (152 households). River Oshirakawa originates from Mt.Hakusan. When you cross the river Shogawa, it turns white and cloudy. This is the origin of the name Shirokawa-go, meaning "the white river".
