Kebun Raya Bogor pada mulanya merupakan bagian dari 'samida' (hutan buatan atau taman buatan) yang setidaknya telah ada pada pemerintahan Sri Baduga Maharaja (Prabu Siliwangi, 1474-1513) dari Kerajaan Sunda, sebagaimana tertulis dalam prasasti Batutulis. Hutan buatan itu ditujukan untuk keperluan menjaga kelestarian lingkungan sebagai tempat memelihara benih benih kayu yang langka. Di samping samida itu dibuat pula samida yang serupa di perbatasan Cianjur dengan Bogor (Hutan Ciung Wanara). Hutan ini kemudian dibiarkan setelah Kerajaan Sunda takluk dari Kesultanan Banten, hingga Gubernur Jenderal van der Capellen membangun rumah peristirahatan di salah satu sudutnya pada pertengahan abad ke-18.

Pada awal 1800-an Gubernur Jenderal Thomas Stamford Raffles, yang mendiami Istana Bogor dan memiliki minat besar dalam botani, tertarik mengembangkan halaman Istana Bogor menjadi sebuah kebun yang cantik. Dengan bantuan para ahli botani, W. Kent, yang ikut membangun Kew Garden di London, Raffles menyulap halaman istana menjadi taman bergaya Inggris klasik. Inilah awal mula Kebun Raya Bogor dalam bentuknya sekarang.

adalah museum yang terletak di Bogor, memiliki koleksi yang berkaitan dengan dunia satwa seperti berbagai spesimen yang diawetkan maupun fosil hewan.[1][2] Museum ini terbagi menjadi dua, salah satunya dibuka setiap hari untuk umum yang berisi ruang pameran terletak di Jalan Ir. H. Juanda No. 9 Bogor, museum yang satu lagi berfungsi sebagai tempat koleksi dan hanya dibuka untuk umum setahun sekali pada bulan Oktober, berada di Pusat Ilmu Pengetahuan Cibinong tepatnya di Jalan Raya Jakarta - Bogor Km.46 Cibinong, Bogor.[3] Kedua bagian museum ini dikelola oleh Bidang Zoologi Pusat Penelitian Biologi-LIPI.[1][4]Awal berdirinya Museum Zoologi Bogor merupakan laboratorium zoologi dengan nama 

Landbouw Zoologisch Laboratorium yang didirikan pada tahun 1894 gagasan dari J. C. Koningsberger ahli botani berkebangsaan Belanda, laboratorium ini didirikan sebagai sarana penelitian yang berkaitan dengan pertanian dan zoologi.[5] Pada tahun 1906 namanya berubah menjadi 

Zoologisch Museum and Wekplaats, pada tahun 1910 kemudian berubah lagi menjadi 

Zoologisch Museum en Laboratorium.[5] Antara tahun 1945-1947 tempat ini dikenal dengan nama 

Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense, dan akhirnya sampai sekarang menjadi Museum Zoologi Bogor.[5]Tempat koleksi museum ini memiliki 24 ruangan koleksi dan baru ditempati pada 1997, dengan pembangunan yang didanai dari dana hibah Bank Dunia dan Jepang.[6] Koleksi ilmiah yang dimiliki museum ini meliputi kategori antara lain: mamalia, ikan, burung, reptil dan amphibi, moluska, serangga, dan invertebrata lain yang bukan moluska dan serangga.[5]
