Detailed itinerary

1

Get to the Chapel of Apparitions, a small chapel constructed in 1919 to mark the location where three children witnessed the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Fátima. Hear the details of the story from your knowledgeable local guide, and discover the place of pilgrimage. Feel the unique atmosphere of the sacred place and be impressed by the people from all over the world coming there to pay respect and express gratitude.

2

Visit the museum to learn more about the event of the apparition and the history of the shepherd children of Fátima. Experience the event through the eyes of a child as you explore the exhibition. Enjoy the organized space that helps you immerse yourself in the sacred atmosphere and imagine the apparitions of Our Lady and the Angel of Portugal.

3

Visit the modern church that seats over 8,500 worshipers. Built in 1989, it has a minimalistic design. Admire the gold, bronze, and white mosaic picture of the Lamb of God, Mary, the children, and the saints, as well as a larger crucifix over the artwork and the altar.

4
Stop 4

Proceed to the following sacred place in Fatima: the Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary in the Sanctuary of Fatima, to marvel at the gorgeous iconic view of its bell tower. Get emotional watching the beautiful neo-baroque architecture of the façade and admiring the statue of the Virgin Mary above the main entrance. Get more information about the construction that started in 1928 and take the best pictures.

5

In case your tour includes lunch, you have the opportunity to drop by Polo Norte Restaurant to have some lovely local dishes and try Portuguese cuisine delicacies. Get a chance to have lunch in such an authentic place and feel the vibe of true Portugal.

6
Stop 6

Hop on your private transport and move to the town of Alcobaça to see the first Gothic buildings in Portugal, which are included in UNESCO’s World Heritage Site list due to their artistic, cultural, and historical significance. Admire the work of architectural art and be impressed by its unique façade and interiors. Stroll around the monastic complex to get more insights as you listen to the fascinating history of the place dating back to 1153.

7

Reach another national monument, Castelo de Obidos. Stand under the walls of an old, majestic, fortified rampart that dates back to Roman times, who lived there until the 5th century. Be astonished by the maze of narrow cobbled streets leading you to the bustling squares and cozy cafes. Feel the energy of this magical location, a perfect place to relax and reflect on the past and present.

8

Admire the classic aqueduct in Obidos that was built at the orders of Catherine of Austria circa 1570. The structure is immense and can be seen from many points in Obidos. Despite its age, it is well preserved and gives you an opportunity to appreciate the necessity of the object that brought water to the population

9

Take a chance to see this small but richly decorated church of Saint Mary with its gilded carvings, blue tiles, and paintings on the ceiling. Take a moment to marvel at the fascinating, vivid ornaments on the famous Portuguese azulejos. Well preserved, like everything else in Obidos, it takes you back in time between 1148 and 1185.

10
Stop 10

Enrich your day and your collection of impressions by visiting the Batalha Monastery. One more World Heritage Site, it offers one of the finest examples of late Flamboyant Gothic architecture in Portugal. Look around and take a stroll to enjoy the sight of splendid stone filigree. The place was also the last resort for six kings of Portugal.

11

Pass by the Boutaca Bridge, a beautiful neo-gothic structure built in 1862 during the reign of King Luis I. Admire its romantic pavilions and yellow dye with perfect white accents. The robust bridge with a stone floor, which is 60 meters long and 7 meters wide, is now considered a Property of Public Interest.

12

See the ruins come alive as you listen to your enthusiastic local guide tell you about the past of the Alcobaca fortress. Imagine medieval times, battles, attacks, and an earthquake in which it was destroyed. The castle is located in a beautiful spot, at a 70-meter-high hill on the bank of the Baça river, overlooking the town and presenting great views.
