Founded in 1400, Malacca was once one of the greatest trading ports in Southeast Asia. According to Malay history the marriage of the sultan to the daughter of the Emperor resulted in a dramatic influx of Chinese settlers because when the princess arrived she brought along a size able retinue that included 500 handmaidens.
The Ming Bride set up home on Bukit China along with her vast entourage and the hill has been a Chinese dominated area ever since.

Build between 1660 and 1700 , bright terracotta-red colonial Dutch buildings with louvered windows and chunky doors with wrought iron hinges.The inside of the Stadthuys is beautiful with white, monumental staircases and high windows. It looks like a typical 17th century Dutch municipal building.

The exterior is mostly ruins and resembles Portuguese architecture. A small paved path is cut out on the hill top that leads visitors inside the church ruins. The church is dedicated to Saint Paul the Apostle and you'll see his statue painted in white.

Christ Church was build in 1753 to celebrate a century of Dutch occupation. Exterior is instantly recognizable brick-red building with a huge white cross at the top. The interior of the cathedral has 200 year old handmade pews, decorative fanlights and plagues that honour Dutch soldiers and locals. When the British took over Malacca they added a weathercock and bell to Christ Church and transformed it from a Protestant church into an Anglican one.

St. Peter's Church is the oldest operational Catholic Church in Malaysia. It was built in 1710 on land donated by the Dutchman Maryber Franz Amboer. The oldest item in the church is the bell, manufactured in Goa in 1908.

The oldest Buddhist place of worship in the country, build in 1646 it is known as the 'Merciful Cloud Temple'. The temple is dedicated to Kuan Yin, Goddess of Mercy. A black, gold and red-robed statue of the goddess stands in the central prayer hall.

In the early 1930s, the British Resident, at the request of a French missiionary allowed the establishment of a fishing village of wooden huts on a area of swampy land next too the sea. It was originally called St.John's Village and became a bastion for those with Portuguese ancestry to preserve their religion,language, culture and traditions. Today the settlement , sometimes called Mini Lisbon comprises streets with names like D'Alberquerque, Sequera Eredia, D'Aranjo and Texeira.
