Mozart Square and its buildings have close ties to the story of this famous boy genius. The house at No. 8 Mozart Square was where Constanze Mozart-Nissen, Mozart’s wife, once lived. To this day, a plaque installed on the wall of the house reminds us of that time.
Nowadays, Mozart Square is an ideal starting point for city tours, as well as being a popular tourist attraction in its own right in the heart of Salzburg’s Old City.

Dedicated to the Archangel Michael, the Michaelstor was the first gate that was built on the left bank of the Salzach in 1620 at the beginning of the third city fortification under Prince Archbishop Paris Count von Lodron. The gate consisted of the Zeugwartstöckl, which has been preserved until today, and the demolished gatehouse, the actual Michaelstor.

The Joseph Mohr House, which is an annexe of the Wohlfühlhotel Gasthof Hintersee, attracts many visitors every year. The house, which was built about 200 years ago, is named after the writer Joseph Mohr, who is known in the whole world over for his carol "Silent Night, Holy Night". Joseph Mohr had a special relationship to the idyllic village of Hintersee in the Salzkammergut Region because he served here as a vicar from 1827 to 1837.
