An ideal proposition for visiting Krakow for a short time, who still want to see as much as possible.
On a par with the monuments of the Old Town and Wawel, the infamous Nazi extermination camp in Oświęcim and the salt mine in Wieliczka in Krakow are part of the "must-see" canon and attract millions of tourists from all over the world.
Take a one-day guided tour of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum and admire the underground wonders of nature and the work of human hands in Wieliczka.
Save time for further sightseeing of Krakow or a blissful rest as you see fit.
We start with security procedures and then a 2 hours travel till our first attraction.
As you follow the tourist route in the Wieliczka Salt Mine (UNESCO World Heritage Site), which runs several hundred meters below the city level, you will learn from your guide about the generations of miners who worked here in the mine and learn about the legends and facts that surround this amazing place. Hear stories about Princess Kinga and how she brought salt treasures to Polish lands, then admire the underground salt lakes by the mine and the beautifully lit halls that shine and sparkle. Endless corridors and shafts, a huge number of geological forms and figures created by people - this is a truly amazing sight for which it is worth climbing hundreds of stairs.
After arriving, we will start with a guided tour of the oldest part of the camp complex, a center of gradual extermination by creating inhuman living conditions and the extermination of prisoners.
Here you will see:
- the sinister gate of the camp with the inscription Arbeit macht frei;
- former camp barracks, and today places of thematic exhibitions devoted to the history of the camp, illustrations of prisoners' lives, storing a collection of personal belongings, photos;
- the wall where the prisoners were shot, barbed wire fencing, watch towers, gallows - everything that still testifies to the conditions under which the Nazi genocide took place.
After a short break - a visit to Auschwitz II-Birkenau, located about 3 km away, occupying a huge area of 140 hectares. About 300 different buildings - barracks, latrines, guardhouses, illustrate the conditions in which the prisoners lived, and the gas chambers and the ruins of crematoria are a silent symbol of their extermination...
