We will start with a 30-minute site seeing ride just outside the city. We'll pass the Negombo Grand Mosque and visit Angurukaramulla Iconic Buddhist Temple. Later we'll cross Colombo road and drive through the Main Street to enter the Negombo Town.
then we will tour the town to discover the street markets. This is our opportunity to feel the the town vibes of Negombo AKA the little Rome.
We will explore the cultural stretch of the Sea Street; You will drive along the Dutch Canal to enter the Sea Street. There are few prominent Roman Catholic churches and Hindu shrines along the sea street and a community that speaks mostly Tamil . We can also visit the Hindu shrine. Sea street is full of life! The temple flower stalls and fruit tables with temple coconuts are very unique.
We will visit the magnificent St. Mary’s Church, it is a historical church with very special roof paintings by local painters. The church is popular for the murals and impressive colonial architecture.
Negombo had the 03rd largest Fort during the Colonial era. Today we have an intact wall and a watch tower that dates back to the 17th Century and the prison built with the bricks of the fort by the English. Later we will take the opportunity to visit the public fish market.
This area is filled with the pungent scent of dried fish. It's an active beach with people engaging in various processing activities. It is very special because it is one of the Few cottage industries in Negombo.
We will cross the lagoon Bridge to enter the fishing village. We will have the opportunity to witness simplex lagoon fishing activities including rod fishing at the bridges. We will pass 'Lellama'; the whole sale fish market and go to visit the Fishermen's church. There is also a local bathing place in close proximity; It's a fun place for the locals.
We will finish our trip with a visit to Browns Beach. There is a public beach park with beach food carts. The beach is clean and endless towards the hotel area.
