Ancient Theater in Ohrid is located at the foot of the eastern slope of the higher Ohrid hill, under Samuel’s Fortress. It is near one of the main entrances to the fortified city – the Upper Gate, from where one may capture and enjoy in the unforgettable breathtaking view of the lake and the surrounding mountains.

The fresco painting in this church represents some of the first works of the most prestigious medieval painters Michael and Eutychios. Their dramatic expressiveness was the basis of the new trend in Byzantine art from this epoch, called “The Renaissance of the Paleologues”, which was the last chapter of the Byzantine art.

The remains are a witness of the fortified city that Ohrid one was. The fortress still remains today watching over Ohrid.

Just under the Samuil Fortress is the Plaoshnik Archeological site. Today around Saint Clement church in Plaosnik settlement there is an ongoing project for reconstructing the first Slavic University where the seat of the Faculty for Theology will be transferred.

Standing alone on a cliff overlooking the Lake of Ohrid, above the fishing settlement of Kaneo, it is one of the landmarks of the old town of Ohrid and a favorite symbol in the entire city.

The church as it is today was renovated and adorned with frescoes in the time of the archbishop Leo, between 1037 and 1056.

After the Ohrid city tour, we continue to the small mountain village of Kuratica in the massive of Mazatar on the Plakenska Mountain. Our hosts will prepare a special meal just for us. In the meantime, depending on the availability, you can make a short donkey ride or just hike in the beautiful surrounding.
