Detailed itinerary

1
Stop 1

The Corinth canal is a man-made waterway that connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. It cuts through the Isthmus of Corinth, providing a shortcut for shipping between the two seas. The canal was built between 1882 and 1893 and has been renovated several times since then. Today, it is used by both merchant vessels and passenger boats.

2

The ancient city of Corinth, known as the "spiritual birthplace" of Europe, attracts thousands each day with its warm winds and inviting turquoise waters. Located in the heart of Greece, Corinth is a paradox of ancient and modern, as the city was founded in the 8th Century BC yet has retained its past and boasts a rich cultural heritage.

The unique architectural style of Corinth can be found throughout the city. The Greek Orthodox Church's massive domes boast 16th century mosaics that depict biblical scenes, while centuries-old walls are covered with Medieval paintings. Corinth's Old Town is a patchwork of the ancient city, with cobblestone streets and small square cafes.

3

The Treasury of Atreus, also known as the Tomb of Agamemnon, is one of the most treasured and reverential tombs ever built in prehistoric Europe. Built for the tomb’s namesake, legendary King Agamemnon of Mycenae from around 1500–1200 BC and set to remain untouched until 1997 by its deceased occupant, it has been left wholly untouched and preserved through the travails of time.

The most famous artwork depicted in the Treasury is the image of a seated woman which was originally thought to be Helen of Troy, but has since been determined by archaeologists to be another woman altogether.

4

Isthmia is a small village in the northeast of Greece, situated on the Isthmos of Corinth, near to the city of Corinth and close to the Saronic Gulf. This village has been inhabited since prehistoric times, and there are many ancient ruins in the area, including an acropolis dating from the Mycenaean period. The most famous attraction in Isthmia is probably the Temple of Poseidon, which was built in about 440 BC and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

5

The ancient fortress of Acrocorinth, located on a rocky outcropping overlooking the city of Corinth, was one of the most strategically important sites in all of Greece. Its commanding view and strong fortifications made it an ideal place to guard the entrance to the Peloponnese peninsula. The first fortifications were built by the Mycenaeans in the 13th century BC, but the site saw its greatest development during the Byzantine period.

6

Mycenae is the name of a mountain and a region around it, south-west of Argos. One of the most important sites within this area is Mycenae itself, which was the center of this civilization from 1600 to 1100 BC. The ancient Greeks named their civilization after Mount Mycenae, believing they were descended from Arcadians, a name which in turn was derived from Mount Mycenae.

Nafplio is the capital of southwestern mountainous, "Greece’s eternal winter delight".
Nafplio is situated on the Saronic Gulf, in a narrow and fortified indent of the Olive Mountains valley. It was declared in 1966 as Municipality and was made cooperational between Argolis Prefecture and Athens Province two years later.

The main town of Nafplio is built at the foot of a small hill on which stands an old castle, which is crowned by a Byzantine church called "Panagia Kalamares".The name Nafplio derives from the ancient Greek name of the town, Napflion. The current name of the town appeared in 1537. The adjective "nafplio" means "cloudy". There are several explanations for this: 'cloudy ' in the sense of "white as chalk" which was used to describe the limestone cliffs that surround the city. Alternatively, it may have arisen from an Egyptian word meaning "sandy".

9

The Temple of Apollo is an ancient temple located in the southern part of the Greek island of Delos. It was built in the 6th century BC and is one of the most significant archaeological remains on the island. The temple, which is surrounded by a peribolos wall, was constructed using the Cyclopean masonry technique, with huge blocks of stone fitted together without mortar.

The Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus is a famous theatre in the Greek city of Epidaurus, which is located on the southeast end of a sanctuary dedicated to an ancient Greek god of medicine, Asclepius. It's close to modern Lygourio, Greece. The theatre was built in the 4th century BC and is the oldest stone theatre in the world.

The Epidaurus Archaeological Museum is the largest and most important archaeological museum in Greece. Situated on the slopes of Mount Argaeus, it contains a large collection of ancient Greek sculptures. The museum was founded in 1836 by King Otto and has since grown to become one of the most important museums in Europe.
