Firstly, you will meet your private official tour guide in front of the south wall of Diocletian’s Palace. From here, you’ll see the full view of it’s scale and hear how and why the palace was built. In case your hotel is centrally located, we can arrange the pick-up from there.
The palace was walled and the different entrance gates are still preserved. You will visit that it used to be the Diocletian’s Mausoleum which later became the San Diomo’s Cathedral.
You will also visit the Peristyle Square, which is the central square of the Palace. This place is one of the liveliest places in all Split, always full of people and bars to have a drink.
Secondly, you will leave the Palace area and continue to the north entrance known as the ‘Golden Gate‘. From here, you will explore the medieval part known as the Old Town. You will walk through it cobbled streets & squares where you can admire its architecture. Mostly of its buildings are from the Renaissance, Gothic and Succession periods.
Split is located on a small peninsula and got its name from the ancient Greeks who settled there in the 4th century. Its name derives from the Greek word “Aspalathos” meaning the Spanish broom flower.
The city is also relevant due to its Adriatic fishing port and naval base, as well as it cultural center. Split was declared as World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979.
