The Cathedral of Matera is located on the highest point of the city, in the "Civita" district, from the Cathedral you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Sasso Barisano. The building dates back to the 13th century and stands on the ruins of the ancient Benedictine monastery of St. Eustace. Since 1627 the Cathedral has been dedicated to the Madonna della Bruna and St. Eustace, protectors of the city of Matera.
