About this experience

Located at the foot of arc-shaped limestone among the delta in Sai Son commune, Thay Pagoda, also known as Master Pagoda, is situated in two villages, namely Da Phuc and Thuy Khue, Quoc Oai District, Hanoi. It is the charming natural scenery with the landscapes looking like the Penglai world. 

Tay Phương pagoda has been renovated many times since it was built in 1632. It has three buildings on the mountainside, namely Chua Ha (Lower Pagoda), Chua Trung (Middle Pagoda) and Chua Thuong (Upper Pagoda). The pagoda is an iconic architectural site of an ancient civilization of people in Doai region.

Vạn Phúc is a village traditionally associated with silk weaving in Hà Đông, 8 km south-west of Hanoi. In Vietnamese it is called both làng lụa Vạn Phúc "Van Phuc silk village" and làng lụa Hà Đông after the larger village area name.

Tay Phuong Pagoda (Chua Tay Phuong – Tay Phuong: West land of perfect Bliss of Buddha). Official name: Sung Phuc Tu (Pagoda of the cult of Buddhist benediction). From Hanoi, one should follow Road No.l to Northwest, at km 34, one should make another 3km of inter-district road to arrive at Yen hamlet, Thach Xa village, Thach That district, Ha Noi) – 239 steps made of laterite (da ong) will lead to the pagoda sitting on a hill of 50 m height. Composition: compartment for rituals and ceremonies (bai duong), main altar (chinh dien) back sanctuary (hau cung). Walls made of Bat Trang bricks.

Especially, a traditional kind of silk called Van Silk made in Van Phuc make the wearers feel cool in summer and warm in winter. Today, to satisfy various demand for silk of the market, Van Phuc silk producers have expanded their silk and garment goods like embroidered silk, , wrinkled silk, double layers and more colors for silk products.

Many families in Van Phuc open their own shops on the main road of the village; create a “town of silk” that sell eye-catching and high quality silk products. Tourists may buy available nice souvenir and clothes in the shop, or select the most suitable materials to then get customized products. The sellers are very friendly and can speak a little English and French to communicate to foreign tourists.
