Detailed itinerary

1
Stop 1

Hoa Lu was the capital of Vietnam in the 10th and 11th centuries in Ninh Bình Province, Vietnam. The area is one of ricefields broken by picturesque limestone mountains, and is approximately 90 km south of Hanoi. Together with Phát Diệm Cathedral, Tam Cốc-Bích Động, Bái Đính Temple, Trang An, and Cúc Phương, Hoa Lư is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Ninh Bình Province.

2
Stop 2

Trang An Landscape Complex

Situated near the southern margin of the Red River Delta, the Trang An Landscape Complex is a spectacular landscape of limestone karst peaks permeated with valleys, many of them partly submerged and surrounded by steep, almost vertical cliffs. Exploration of caves at different altitudes has revealed archaeological traces of human activity over a continuous period of more than 30,000 years. They illustrate the occupation of these mountains by seasonal hunter-gatherers and how they adapted to major climatic and environmental changes, especially the repeated inundation of the landscape by the sea after the last ice age. The story of human occupation continues through the Neolithic and Bronze Ages to the historical era. Hoa Lu, the ancient capital of Viet Nam, was strategically established here in the 10th and 11th centuries AD. The property also contains temples, pagodas, paddy-fields and small villages.

3

Hiking to the highest peak at Mua Cave (also known as Hang Mua) is one of the best things to do in Ninh Binh! The cave itself is not that spectacular but it’s the incredible 360-degree views from the Hang Mua viewpoint that make this a very popular place to visit.
Scenic mountainside spot with a cave & 500 steps to a lookout with iconic views of the countryside.

Hang Mua (Mua Caves) is interestingly not famous for its caves, but for the panorama that awaits visitors who conquer the 500 stone steps to the peak, where they find Tam Coc stretching at their feet in its full glory which is often said is a miniature version of the Chinese Great Wall. It has been said that when he first came to the Hoa Lu area and established the Thai Vi Temple, the Kings of Tran often visited Hang Mua to enjoy dancers dancing and singing, which lent it the named Hang Mua (Dancing Caves).

4

Known locally as ‘Ha Long Bay on Land’ thanks to its magical riverine landscape, with sheer limestone mountains rising up from the paddies. The best way to get a sense of this UNESCO-protected site is by taking a paddleboat tour along its shimmering rivers, and climbing to the top of its fabled peaks.
