Meet your English-speaking driver/guide at the airport in Colombo or at your local accommodation for a 4-day, 2-night tour of Sri Lanka’s southern coast. Spend some time relaxing and soaking up the hustle and bustle of Colombo. Stay overnight at a hotel in the city.
The next day, drive to Hikkaduwa, with its pristine beaches and exciting nightlife. Visit a moonstone mine and see where the semi-precious stones of Sri Lanka’s gem industry come from. The finest are bluish in color and found in high concentrations between Ambalangoda and Hikkaduwa. Stop by Kosgoda Turtle Farm and it’s possible to see the hatching of large amounts of new born turtles. Partake in a Maduganga boat safari and pause along the way at small cinnamon islands. Spend the night at a hotel in Mirissa.
Wake up early at 5:30am the next morning to go whale watching in Mirissa. Afterward, drive to the Hummanaya Blow Hole, a natural rock formation with water gushing straight up. Admire the traditional stilt fishermen hauling their catch. Continue on to Yala, and participate in a safari in Yala National Park. Stay overnight at a Yala hotel.
