The west of Bali is more than just a stunning coastline and fabulous sunsets. Venture inland and discover an untouched, wilder side of Bali where nature dominates and villages as old as the island itself still exist. Located in this part of Bali is Mount Batukaru, an extinct volcano and the island’s second highest mountain, home to a unique and exotic landscape.
Exploration does not get better than travel in a vintage Volkswagen car. The classic Kübelwagen enables access along small roads and exploration of picturesque villages off the established tourist trail. Even better, the cover can be retracted to provide a 360-degree view of sprawling rice paddies, smouldering active volcanoes and quaint villages.

The fun already starts when your vintage Kübelwagen arrives to collect you from the hotel. Very soon, your driver will turn onto local roads and the landscape will start to change right before your eyes. Stop in the town of Tabanan to explore the market and see how trade carries on just as it did in days gone by.
Your driver will then head up the slopes of Mount Batukaru, passing traditional Balinese villages along the way. In the town of Tambuwaras, you get the rare chance to explore a beautiful temple located at the edge of the rainforest and rarely visited by tourists. Nearby are the famous UNESCO-listed emerald rice terraces of Jatiluwih that cascade down the mountain side. Stop here to take in the stunning landscape and snap plenty of photos.
Carrying on to Desa Tegallinggah, there will be a stop for lunch in a local restaurant, offering breathtaking views over the surrounding rice fields.
Back in the car, continue to Desa Apuan, a local settlement of traditional Balinese compounds, where you will gain an insight into the philosophy and culture of this ancient community.
The village of Desa Tua is another village that keeps western influences at bay. Take a stroll through the village and learn about the production of rice – from the grain to the final product.
The tour concludes with a transfer back to your hotel.
Hotel pickups commence approximately 30 - 60 minutes prior to this time, exact pickup time will be advised on reconfirmation.
