Detailed itinerary

1
Stop 1 Pass by

Daily life at the Mekong Delta is a leisurely 2-hour drive outside of Ho Chi Minh City, so be ready to welcome your guide and driver right after breakfast at your hotel in the former Vietnamese capital. Passing local communities and taking well-paved motorways, the 170,000-inhabitant counting town of My Tho marks the entrance into the Tien Giang province. It is right here where you get your first impression of the ‘rice bowl of Vietnam’ as hundreds of rice paddy fields province multiple harvests each year. It may not be the place for seeing the floating markets but in and around the town, life, as it has been for generations, makes it worth the visit.

2
Stop 2

From one of My Tho’s boat piers, we sail over the Mekong River, passing the multitude of orchards and the water coconut canopy that decorates the river banks.

En route to our disembarkation point, we make a stop at one of the fruit orchards for sampling some exotic fruits and get an insight into the processes of cultivation. Lunch is served at a local restaurant.

3
Stop 3

Before our boat and coach brings us back in the direction of Ho Chi Minh City, we enter the realms of one of the more venerable pagodas of the Mekong Delta. Annexed from Cambodia by the invading Vietnamese in the 17th Century, the Delta remains home to descendants of the former Khmer Empire and is scattered with a working collection of temples and resident Buddhists that continue to use the Khmer language as their mother tongue.

The Vinh Trang Pagoda is an example of Buddhism influences, dating back to these times and you’ll immediately notice that the temple grounds radiate peace and serenity. We, unfortunately, have to leave back to Ho Chi Minh, leaving this sanctuary behind, for another 2-hour drive to your booked accommodation
