On our Ljubljana Food Tour, join your expert local guide and taste your way through Ljubljana, discovering its flavours, stories, and culture on a journey through the heart of the city. Led by passionate locals who truly live and breathe Ljubljana’s food scene, we take you beyond the obvious and straight to the places locals love most cosy café corners, tucked-away bakeries, and neighbourhood favourites that quietly define the city’s culinary soul.
Stroll through this leafy capital of cobblestone streets and story-filled lanes, uncovering unforgettable flavours along the way. From traditional Slovenian comfort dishes to modern interpretations that reflect the city’s creative, evolving food culture, each stop reveals a new side of Ljubljana. And of course, there’s our Secret Dish a signature surprise revealed only on the day.
From local wines and pastries to hearty stews, artisan cured meats, cheeses, and seasonal produce, this is the ultimate way to experience the real Ljubljana.
Step into the lively Central Market of Ljubljana, designed by Jože Plečnik and at the heart of daily city life. Begin with a warm, freshly baked burek, followed by a shared plate of Slovenian cured meats, local cheeses, and house pickles, showcasing the country’s diverse regional flavours.
Continue along the Ljubljanica River as it curves through the old town. Pause at the iconic Triple Bridge, Plečnik’s architectural signature, where three bridges open onto the city’s main square and connect centuries of history with modern Ljubljana.
Make a stop at a small, family-run speciality shop for a guided tasting of Slovenian olive oil, pumpkin seed oil, and truffles. Learn how these ingredients shape the country’s cuisine, from the coast to the forests, through flavour, tradition, and craft.
Pause in front of Ljubljana’s Town Hall, a striking blend of Gothic and Baroque architecture. Hear stories of the city’s medieval roots, civic traditions, and how food and trade helped shape the historic centre.
Wander through cobbled streets and quiet squares of the old town as we make our way uphill toward the castle. Along the route, taste a classic Slovenian sausage, simple and hearty, reflecting the country’s Alpine influences.
Reach a traditional restaurant near the castle to enjoy a comforting bowl of Slovenian goulash served with štruklji — delicate, hand-rolled dumplings that have been part of local kitchens for generations. Pair the dish with a glass of Slovenian dessert wine to finish on a rich, indulgent note.
Arrive at Ljubljana Castle, rising above the city. Take in panoramic views over red rooftops and the river below, and close the tour where Ljubljana’s layered history, landscape, and flavours come together.
