Approximately 30-minutes from the pier you will find Cartagena’s  central market, Mercado Bazurto. On arrival, plunge into an enthralling yet dizzying experience, a full engagement of the senses.

 

 

 

As you are shepherded through this captivating world by an expert guide, you will spy an abundance of food and spices, including fish, meat, mountains of dill and cilantro, and endless rows of exotic  fruits and vegetables.

 

 

As interesting as the food are the people, who gesticulate, whistle, shout and even sing as they buy and sell everything from pots and mangos to hammers and all sea food

 

After your marketplace exploration, take the short transfer to as special place, where you will be treated to a fresh exotic fruit juice on arrival.

       Using the fresh ingredients purchased at the market, you will assist in creating a typical local dish, which will be on the menu for your delectable lunch.

 

After your lunch :  Walking along atmospheric streets, also appreciate the charm of the city’s Spanish colonial architecture. View old merchant’s houses, flower-bedecked balconies, stunning civic buildings and beautiful churches. Many squares and public spaces are lined by sidewalk cafes and restaurants, where Colombians and visitors alike relax and enjoy the magic of this amazing city.

 A modern contrast to the Old City is Boca Grande, which you will reach after a short transfer by motor coach. Here, modern high-rise apartment buildings, hotels and restaurants are bustling with both locals and vacationers. A brief stop will be made at the Emerald Museum, showcasing the renowned Colombian emerald and you will have shopping time . A look at Cartagena past and present drawing to a close, rejoin your motor coach for the 30-minute return to the pier and your ship.

Guests should be in good physical condition and able to walk at a médium pace in the heat for approximately 30 minutes in order to participate (at the market) .

 The visit to Bazurto Market involves walking over unsurfaced áreas that may sometimes be strewn with debris of market produce. Care should be taken with footing.
