Experience Peru’s ‘true colors’ during this adventurous full-day trek to ‘Ausangate,’ also known as the Rainbow Mountain. Hike through postcard-worthy landscapes, and get a taste for daily life among area locals as you head to this colorful alpine destination. You’ll cap off the adventure from a vantage point offering 360 views of the colored minerals that give the site its unexpected vista. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are also included.
Start in Cusco with an early-morning pickup at 2:15am, continuing for 3 hours aboard a private van to the start of the trail. You will be given a hot breakfast at the trailhead to fuel up for the hike ahead. The hike to the “Rainbow Mountain” will take around 3-4 hours, depending on your fitness level.
Throughout your journey you’ll trek through a vibrant green valley, offering an impressive view of Ausangate Mountain towering in the distance. As you walk, you’ll also get a first-hand look at how locals live in the mountains, and even have a chance to speak with them. As you get closer to the Rainbow Mountain, you will begin to see the first signs of the colored minerals that form these unexpectedly “painted” hills. Your guide will explain the geology behind the Rainbow Mountain, and offer encouragement during one last push up to a vantage point offering a 360-degree view of the beautiful landscape of this sacred land.
Enjoy some well-deserved snacks on top, and take a break to soak up the vistas. After about an hour, you will continue back down to the trailhead (2.5 to 3 hours), where you will have an amazing lunch prepared by our private chef. Then depart back to Cusco, arriving at your hotel around 7pm.
