About this experience

Visit Marques de Riscal and Ysios, the two most prestigious wineries that produce excellent wines but also boast world-renowned architecture. In this tour you will be able to discover the magnificence of Rioja through a perfect fusion of vineyards, excellent wines and renowned architects such as Franck Gehry or Santiago Calatrava.

Visit Laguardia and take the best pictures form our secret spots and enjoy local tapas for lunch.

In case the Ysios winery was closed for visits (sometimes it happens as it´s a very special winery) we will upgrade you for a wine tasting in Carlos San Pedro winery with the best views over the Ysios winery and the Sierra Cantabria mountains. You will taste 4 wines paired with 3 local appetisers. And of course you will be able to take as many pictures as you want of the Ysios building!

Detailed itinerary

We will start our Architectural Rioja Tour from Bilbao with a guided visit of the Marques de Riscal winery designed by one of todays leading architects, Franck Gehry. (Also famed for the Guggeheim museum in Bilbao). Expect to taste three different wines.

We will visit the Ysios cellar designed by Santiago Calatrava. The structure boasts many architectural features, for example, the roof aims to simulate te Sierra Cantabria (the mountain range that importantly helps to create the Rioja micro climate). In case Ysios is not open to the public that we will take you to Javier San Pedro winery (in front of Ysios winery)

You will have a tutored tasting where you will taste two of their remarkable wines with an aperitif (normally Iberian ham).

You will enjoy a simple tapas lunch with wine in Laguardia

We will head to Laguardia for a walk around the beautiful walled, medieval city of LaGuardia, with its underground cellars and wineries. Possibly one of the most beautiful villages in La Rioja

The meeting point is in front of the Guggenheim museum where the big red stop for the Bilbao city view Hop-on Hop-off bus is located (by the tourist information point). You will see it easy as it is in front of Islares restaurant and very close to the Puppy flower sculpture designed by Jeff Koons.
