Is it possible to hike up to the highest peak of Hungary from Budapest in one day? Surprisingly yes!
We start from Budapest, take a long bus ride till Mátraháza. From Mátraháza we take a longer uphill walk through beautiful beech forests to reach Kékes, the highest peak. At the top there is a super high telecommunication tower with a panorama terrace to make this experience even more outstanding. We start descending from the peak, and on our way we will visit several other lookout points with stunning views to the north. We continue until we reach the old ruins of a small fort with a beautiful landscape back to the Mátra mountains and to the plains in the south. At the end we take a bus from a small village back to Budapest
