After morning pickup from your hotel lobby in Orchha, drive to palace complex in the comfort of a private vehicle. On a seasonal island on the bank of the Betwa River, which has been surrounded by a battlement wall, stands a huge palace-fort. The fort consists of several connected buildings erected at different times, the most noteworthy of which is the Raja Mahal. The Jahangir Mahal built on a rectangular base and is relieved by a circular tower at each corner surmounted by a dome is the marvel even today. The stunning beauty of the city is characterized by delicate chhatris (elevated pavilions) and intricate trellis work. Also get a look at the two-story brick palace of Rai Praveen Mahal, built in remembrance of a 16th-century poet and musician. You may become awestruck upon seeing the prismatic light of sun rays slipping through skilfully carved recesses in the main hall and other chambers.
