The Monumental Ensemble of the Fortress of La Mota, houses the old walled city of Alcalá la Real. This, and the different elements of military architecture of its environment, serve as reference point to know and explain the temporal and spatial process linked to the evolution of the border during the Late Middle Ages, while serving as an example of urban development in the interior of a city intramuros in the period that covers from S. XIV to s. XVIII.
We are open Monday to Sunday.
Currently, the Monumental Ensemble of the Fortress of La Mota, has become a monumental space of the first order, a first-class reference at the tourist and heritage level. Along with the singularity of the enclave, the thematization project was developed, which has led to the creation of the Center for the Interpretation of Life on the Border.
With the incorporation of these improvements and new equipment, it has become an effective offer that integrates leisure, culture, learning and fun, all with the appropriate historical rigor, turning this enclave and its visit into a leap to times of frontier, of struggles, but also of coexistence and exchange between cultures. All this with the use of the most modern technologies, audiovisuals, models, 3D elements, which make the visit even more attractive.
However, the extraordinary Monumental Complex of the Fortress of La Mota, together with the beauty of its natural environment, constitute an incomparable framework for the presentation of the values of the cultural and landscape heritage of one of the most attractive areas of Andalusia.
