Fanal is one of the most emblematic places in Madeira, it is located between the Ribeira da Janela and the Planalto do Paúl da Serra. Widely known for its unique beauty and its centenary Tis Trees(Ocotea foetens), these specimens that resist time date back to the period prior to the discovery of the island. They are part of the Laurissilva forest classified as World Natural Heritage by UNESCO since December 1999 and are part of the European Network of Sites of Community Importance - Natura 2000 Network.
We will go along the road and stop at other points of interest or beautiful viewpoints. We walk in the Fanal park and enjoy the beauty of these ancient trees and their stunning atmosphere especially if we have the common foggy weather.
