Discover the historical and landscape beauties of Palermo, cycling on its enchanting shores with a tour that has as protagonists the History and the Sea. We will cross the Borgo dell'Arenella, a fishing village that was born in the 19th century around the Tonnara Florio and that, today, houses the two marinas of Arenella and Acquasanta. During our tour, we will see the Grand Hotel Villa Igiea, built by the Florios, one of the Italian families of industrial tradition and absolute protagonist in Palermo during the Belle Époque Period. The tour continues in the direction of Mondello, with its characteristic seaside village and its enchanting beach. We will resume our ride through the Real Park of the Favorita, a park of about 400 hectares, created in 1799, which at the time was mainly his private hunting reserve, and the Palazzina Cinese, the ancient royal residence of the Borbons. We finally come back to Palermo city centre, where our bike excursion will end.
The park extends from the shade of Monte Pellegrino to the neighbourhood of Pallavicino. Two long streets (named after Hercules and Diana) cross in parallel the park, connecting the centre of Palermo to the seaside borough of Mondello. The streets are interwoven thanks to a third avenue named after Pomona. Within (or near) the park are located several places of interest like the royal residence called Palazzina Cinese (with the attached Museo Etnografico Siciliano Giuseppe Pitrè), the precious Villa Niscemi, the Neoclassical Fountain of Hercules, the Renzo Barbera Stadium and other sport facilities.
