The newly opened Documentation centre is worth a visit and is now a museum of sorts which includes a detailed history of the rise and fall of the Third Reich amidst the bunkers built for the party members to escape should the time come. Well worth spending some time here with an audio guide to enhance your experience.
Salzburg is a 30 minute drive from Eagles Nest. We usually stop for lunch and then do a walking tour of the old town which includes many of the Sound of Music sights. Marienplatz, Nonntal Abbey, Stiegl Brewery, Mozart's birth house, Getreide Gasse and many more sights are covered in this two hour walking tour including stops of the many markets and of course the Xmas market in the centre of Salzburg.
