Galle Fort, in the Bay of Galle on the southwest coast of Sri Lanka, was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards

It has a constantly growing selection of places to eat, drink or shop. Sugar Bistro has an outlet there as does The Hammock Restaurant and The Tuna and the Crab.

This dutch place of worship is still preserved for visitors to see how the Dutch lived. the church still bears the names of the Dutch colonists, and the many tombstones bear witness to the long period of Dutch colonization
